Two Iowa Teens Killed, Two Seriously Injured at BNSF Crossing
(Clarke County, Iowa – May 27, 2021)
Two Iowa teenagers were killed and another two were rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries after their pickup truck was struck by a BNSF freight train. The collision occurred yesterday at about 4:30 pm at the BNSF railroad crossing just east of Murray, Iowa.
According to reports, the crossing where the collision occurred is a dirt road crossing, but has lights and gates. It is unclear if the lights and gates were operating as designed at the time of this collision. It is also yet to be determined if the train crew provided sufficient warning of its approach for the four occupants of the 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
Iowa State Patrol and the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the collision.
