Train Kills Girl Days From HS Graduation at Dangerous, Unguarded Crossing
(Wagarville, Alabama – May 14, 2011)
Rosha C. Powell, 19, a senior at Leroy, AL High School and scheduled to graduate the following Monday, was killed Saturday about 5:00 P.M. when the car in which she was riding was struck by a Norfolk Southern freight train at a rural railroad crossing.
She was one of three individuals in a 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo which was crossing the dangerous, unguarded, crossbuck-only NS railroad crossing of Sunflower Road three miles south of Wagarville, AL. Leroy High School Assistant Principal Kelly Norstrom said the tragedy was “a devastating loss to our senior class.”
