(Woodstock, Illinois – June 16, 2011)
A cow, allegedly already dead, was struck by a Chicago-bound Metra commuter passenger train on Union Pacific rails about 6:10 A.M. Wednesday morning in the far northwest suburb of Woodstock, IL. The collision resulted in loosened cables on the Metra locomotive and caused delay to two other trains.
Mentioning that it was unclear how the cow died, Metra Media Relations Director Tom Miller said “It’s not something you hear about every day, or every year, or every two years, or every five years.” He failed to mention that those appurtenances on the fonts of locomotives which appear to be snowplows were once known, and used as, “cowcatchers”.
