Waterloo Iowa Pedestrian Loses Left Leg When Hit by Canadian National Train

(Waterloo, Iowa – April 22, 2017)

A 37-year-old local woman who was walking along Canadian National (Chicago, Central & Pacific) railroad tracks lost her leg last Saturday at approximately 9:30 P.M., CDT.  The incident occurred near the crossing of East Fourth Street in Waterloo, IA.  The pedestrian laid along the tracks in agony for at least a half an hour after being struck by one of a large number of CN/CCP train movements that travel that route daily and suffering what were described as  “massive wounds” to her left leg.

Jovida Owens was finally discovered by a crew of another train, and was subsequently rushed to Waterloo’s Unity Point Health-Allen Hospital where surgeons removed a portion of her injured limb.

Police said the victim was “alert and conscious” when she was found, obviously in extreme pain from her debilitating injuries.
