An as-yet unidentified white male in his 20’s, walking along Union Pacific Railroad tracks in the northeast section of El Paso, TX, died Saturday about 3:00 P.M. when he was struck by a UPRR freight train.
The Chicago-to-Los Angeles train was hauling 101 cars, and UP Southern Region Spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza said “Stopping the train before it struck the man would have been impossible because it takes more than a mile for a train to come to a complete stop.”
The tragedy occurred near U.S. Highway 54 between Cassidy Road and Fred Wilson Avenue. According to statistics, 28 pedestrians died on Texas railroad tracks last year.
