Two Killed, One Seriously Injured in Tennessee at Notorious CN Crossing
(Memphis, Tennessee – February 1, 2023)
Two individuals were killed and a third transported to a local hospital in critical condition after a collision with a freight train in Memphis, Tennessee. The collision occurred at a notoriously dangerous CN crossing near Chelsea Avenue and Carpenter Street. The Memphis Police Department has not released the names of the individuals killed or injured in the collision.
According records submitted by CN, there have been twenty four prior collisions at this crossing. Three of those prior collisions occurred in 2022 alone. The crossing consists of five railroad tracks that accommodates at least 21 trains on a daily basis at a typical speed of 20 mph. The crossing is equipped with lights and gates, but it is unclear if they were properly operating at the time of this collision.
The Memphis Police Department is still investigating this collision.
