Trucker Seriously Injured at Un-gated Iowa Railroad Crossing
(Meriden, Iowa – April 26, 2011)
A 42-year-old truck driver from Little Canada, Minnesota named Junzhi Xiao was seriously injured Tuesday when the refrigerated box truck he was driving collided head-on with an eastbound Chicago Central Railway freight train at the crossing of Iowa Highway 3/K Avenue with the CCR railroad tracks in Cherokee County, Iowa.
The crossing is not equipped with gates but has flashing signals, which the sheriff’s office said received $100,000 in damages. The truck, owned by New Metro Trucking of New Hope, Minnesota, was totaled, and the “incapacitated”, seriously injured Xiao was life-flighted via helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
