Trucker Seriously Injured At Dangerous, Unguarded BNSF Crossing
(Raymond, Minnesota – September 9, 2011)
A 66-year-old truck driver from Wilmar, MN was seriously injured and his 1973 International tandem-wheeled truck destroyed when he was driving north on a private drive crossing of BNSF Railroad tracks lacking gates, lights or bells.
Anthony Vaneps was struck by a westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train travelling at 40 mph about 10:35 A.M. Friday morning and was ejected from his truck by the impact according to Kandiyohi County Sheriff Dan Hartog.
The victim was first transported to Rice Memorial Hospital in Wilmar, MN, but was then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.
