Three Killed in Gary, Indiana at CSX Crossing

Three individuals were killed, including an 11-year-old-girl and a 13-year-old boy in Gary, Indiana yesterday when their vehicle was struck by a CSX freight train. The collision between the CSX freight train and a four-door Chevrolet occurred at about 7:30 a.m. at a railroad crossing in the Miller neighborhood. Deniya Brown, 11, Deyki Mitchell, 13 and Shermika Herbert, 37, were the three occupants of the vehicle. All were pronounced deceased after being ejected from their vehicle upon impact of the train. The railroad crossing where this collision occurred accommodates six trains daily at average speeds of 30 mph.
