(Fort Worth, Texas – August 16, 2011)
An as-yet unidentified motorist was injured and transported to a local hospital after his vehicle was struck by a Union Pacific freight train as he tried to cross UPRR tracks at the North Tarrant Parkway crossing in Fort Worth, TX Tuesday morning shortly before 9:00 A.M.
The back of the victim’s car was clipped by the train, which spun it into a ditch 40 feet from the crossing. When fire and police personnel arrived, the crossing’s lights were flashing and the gates were down, but recorders aboard the Union Pacific locomotive have yet to be checked to determine exactly when the protective devices were activated.
