Teenager Killed When Hit by Amtrak Train While Attempting to Cross CN Tracks
(Bloomfield Township, Michigan – November 10, 2012)
An 18-year-old local resident was killed at about 8:08 P.M. Saturday night as he attempted to cross Canadian National railroad tracks in Bloomfield Township, MI at a point absent of any public crossings and was struck by a northbound Amtrak train with 11 passengers on board.
The tragedy occurred n he vicinity of Kensington Road, which parallels CN tracks, and Iron Gate Road, which terminates at Kensington without crossing the railroad tracks.
Bloomfield Twp. Police would not identify the victim before notifying his relatives.
A daily average of 36 CN freight and Amtrak passenger trains pass through the rail corridor at a top speed of 45 mph.
The tragedy was being investigated by the Bloomfield Twp. Police Investigative Division and the Southeast Oakland County Crash Investigation Unit.
