(San Diego, California – September 3, 2023)
A San Diego pedestrian was killed by a high-speed Coaster train on Sunday September 3, 2023, at about 3:35 pm. The collision occurred near the roadway intersection of Pacific Highway and West Washington Street. The Coaster train was northbound when it struck the pedestrian.
According to San Diego Police, it appears the pedestrian initially survived the collision, but succumbed to his injuries after paramedics arrived. FRA maintained records demonstrate that the State of California currently ranks within the top 5 states for pedestrian-train incidents and fatalities. It is unclear if there was any pedestrian safety fencing or pedestrian warning devices at this pathway to actively warn pedestrians of oncoming trains.
The San Diego Sherriff’s Office is continuing to investigate this incident.
