Radioactive Materials Endangered In Oklahoma Train/Truck Accident
(Verdigris, Oklahoma – July 6, 2011)
A pickup truck carrying medical supplies, which included chemotherapy radiation, to a Tulsa, OK hospital was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train in rural Rogers County, OK about 1:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon. The driver of the small truck allegedly went around lowered crossing gates and through flashing signals, and was clipped in the rear by the train, spinning the vehicle around.
As a precaution, officials from several law enforcement and fire protection departments cordoned off the area until it was determined there was no release of the low-level radiation. The victim was transported to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK for treatment of his injuries.
