(West Carrollton, Ohio – October 21, 2011)
The 23-year-old son of the Chief of Police in Miamisburg, OH lost his life early Friday morning about 7:00 A.M. as he attempted to walk across Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks in West Carrollton, OH near the Alex-Bell Road crossing.
Nicholas Sedlak of West Carrollton, OH, and the son of Chief John Sedlak of the Miamisburg PD, was hit and killed instantly by a NS freight train. Emergency responders found the body of the victim, who coroner’s officers said died of multiple trauma, a quarter mile from the crossing, which is equipped with lights, bells and gates.
“We don’t think anything suspicious,” said West Carrollton Deputy Police Chief Doug Woodward. “We don’t think suicide. We just think it’s an accident.”
The crossing has a history of six accidents, but Friday’s was the first fatality.
