Oregon Driver Injured When Hit by Amtrak Train

(Oregon City, Oregon – July 2, 2011)

The driver of an SUV was rushed to a Portland, OR hospital Saturday afternoon about 5:20 P.M. after his vehicle collided with an Amtrak passenger train running at 45 mph with 307 passengers. The train took nearly a half mile to come to a complete halt, but flung the SUV aside at the point of impact.

The unidentified motorist, whose vehicle was virtually destroyed, was taken to Oregon Health and Science University Hospital as investigators worked to determine the cause of the accident. The crossing is equipped with both lights and gates.
