One Killed, Another Seriously Injured In Sunday Morning Pedestrian Tragedies
(Baltimore, Maryland – April 3, 2011)
Two CSX Railroad accidents in the greater Baltimore area within 35 minutes of each other left one pedestrian dead and another seriously injured early Sunday morning. At 3:10 A.M., a 23-car yard transfer train struck and injured a yet-unidentified pedestrian in the 1200 block of Russell Street, near M&T Bank Stadium. The injured party was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment of undetermined injuries. Little more than a half hour later, a 72-car freight train pulled by two locomotives and travelling from Detroit to Philadelphia was halted by its engineer “because he thought he had hit something”. The accident occurred on CSX Railroad tracks between Jones Road and Joppa Farm Road, just east of Pulaski Highway. Police investigated and found a 38-year-old man dead and lying beside the tracks in suburban White Marsh in Baltimore County. He is as yet unidentified.
