One Killed, Another Seriously Injured at Unguarded, Dangerous Louisiana Crossing
(Estherwood, Louisiana – May 18, 2011)
One individual was killed and another seriously wounded after their small pickup was struck by a BNSF train. Katelan Foster, 20, of Scott, LA, a passenger in the truck, was killed Wednesday, May 18th by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail testing train at the Old Spanish Trail crossing. The unguarded, dangerous railroad crossing lies at the edge of Estherwood.
The driver, 24 year-old Derrick Mouton of Morse, LA, was transported via AirMed to a Lafayette, LA hospital, where he was in stable condition. According to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, the sole markings at the BNSF railroad crossing was a yield sign.
