Oklahoma Man in Serious Condition After Train Hits Pickup at Private Crossing
(Verdigris, Oklahoma – May 2, 2011)
The driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck was transported to a local hospital in serious condition after his vehicle was hit and demolished by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe coal train at a private railroad crossing in the Tulsa/Claremore area Monday morning. The as-yet unidentified man had to be extricated from the wreckage.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers on the scene said they were not sure if the train had sounded its horn, but added that train personnel are not required to do so when approaching private crossings. The BNSF Railroad line parallels heavily traveled U.S. Route 66.
