Motorist Injured At Dangerous, Unguarded Norfolk Southern Crossing
(Bradley County, Tennessee – September 18, 2011)
An as-yet unidentified driver was seriously injured about 8:36 A.M. Sunday morning when his vehicle was struck by a Norfolk Southern freight train at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of Bell Road and NS tracks in rural Bradley County, TN.
The crossing has no electronic protection (lights, bells or gates), and is totally dependent upon passive railroad crossbuck signs to serve as a “warning” that trains pass through at that point. Bradley County EMS responded to the accident, and the victim was first taken to SkyRidge Medical Center in Cleveland, TN, but was then transferred to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN, due to the seriousness of his injuries. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
