Missouri Pedestrian Killed by Amtrak Train on Union Pacific Railroad Tracks

(Cole County, Missouri – July 29, 2020)

A 46-year-old woman from Centertown, Missouri was killed last Wednesday at about 11:08 AM, CDT when she was struck from behind by an eastbound Amtrak passenger train as she walked along Union Pacific Railroad track near Missouri Route Z in Cole County.

It was not clear at what point Kelly Stevens entered the rail corridor which carries a daily average of 18 Union Pacific freight and Amtrak passenger trains at a maximum allowable speed of 50 mph. The railroad track is however easily entered along mostly unfenced right-of-way and at road crossings.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cole County and Missouri State Highway Patrol officials.
