(Thorsby, Mississippi – July 15, 2011)
Since 2001, the community of Thorsby, MS has experienced a total 15 railroad crossing accidents either within or directly adjacent to its city limits, resulting in seven fatalities. State authorities are finally addressing the problem with a grade crossing protective system aimed at remedying the dangerous conditions at this crossing.
“Railroad company CSX knew Thorsby was in need of some sort of preventative measures at several crossings,” says The Clanton Advertiser. Meanwhile, Thorsby Mayor Dean Hillyer stated “I hope this stops any future fatalities or incidents, because one fatality is one too many.”
