Mississippi Pickup Truck Driver Injured at Canadian National Crossing
(Brookhaven, Mississippi – May 12, 2011)
A Brookhaven man walked away from a collision with a Canadian National freight train Wednesday morning about 10:26 A.M. With undetermined injuries and what was termed “a near-death experience” Percy Ford was visibly shaken after he drove his Ford Ranger pickup eastbound across CNR railroad tracks at the Minnesota Street grade crossing,
His pickup was struck in the rear by the train, was flung across the tracks, and collided with a railroad signal utility box. Debris, paint, ladders and a spare tire were scattered across the accident scene.
The Canadian National train conductor, who refused to give his name, claimed the crossing gates were down, and told local news media “When you run through the gate, that’s the price you pay. “ The southbound train was carrying multiple cars of heavy steel coils. Ford was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center for treatment.
