(Falmouth, Maine – February 13, 2020)
A 62-year-old resident of Portland, ME was killed at about 3:56 PM, EST Thursday afternoon by a high-speed Amtrak train. The pedestrian was walking along easily-accessible Springfield Terminal Railroad tracks that pass through the city of Falmouth, ME when the incident occurred.
Lewis Bradley was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities responding to the tragedy.
The tracks are owned by Maine and Springfield Terminal Railway. The Downeaster passenger trains are operated by Amtrak through cooperation with the New England Passenger Rail Authority.
The site of the incident was on railroad tracks that pass behind the West Falmouth Crossing shopping plaza, a wooded area, hiking trails and the Presumpscot River. A daily average of two dozen freight and passenger trains ply the corridor at a maximum allowable speed of 60 mph.
