Louisiana Motorist Dies At Dangerous, Unprotected Union Pacific Crossing
(Grosse Tete, Louisiana – August 20, 2011)
A crossing protected only by passive railroad crossbucks claimed its third life and recorded its fifth accident Saturday night about 11:00 P.M. when a 60-year-old resident of the Iberville Parish community of Grosse Tete, LA died instantly when a Union Pacific train struck the driver’s side of his pickup truck.
Thomas Breenan was crossing UPRR tracks at the Cedar Street crossing, which has never has electronic signalization like gates, lights or bells, regardless of its tragic history. In the usual speculative defense mode, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Dept. Major Johnny Blanchard said they were “unsure if Breenan was unconscious or intoxicated at the time” of the tragic collision.
