(Rushville, Missouri – November 21, 2011)
An Atchison, KS resident died Monday morning about 11:12 A.M. when the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero he was driving collided with a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train at the intersection of BNSF railroad tracks and Old Highway Road Southwest near Rushville, MO.
Shaunte Williams, 30, somehow drove off the edge of the crossing, got his car lodged upon it, and was struck by the train. The crossing is equipped with gates and flashing lights, but there was no confirmation that they were functioning properly when the tragedy occurred. The victim was dead at the scene, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
