(Cimarron, Kansas – February 16, 2015)
A Garden City, KS man lost his life in a collision with Amtrak’s Southwest Chief passenger train three miles east of Cimarron, KS in Gray County when his westbound 1994 Lexus slid off U.S. Highway 50 and wound up on BNSF railroad tracks, which closely parallel the highway at that location, where his vehicle was struck by the eastbound train at about 12:50 A.M. Monday morning.
Lanh Tran, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Western Plains Regional Hospital in Dodge City, KS to await action by the Gray County Coroner.
Kansas Highway Patrol troopers who responded to the accident blamed slick conditions of ice and snow on U.S. Highway 50 as contributory causal factors in the tragedy.
