Kansas Driver Dies at Rural Railroad Crossing

(Chase County, Kansas – May 7, 2011)

A 77-year-old resident of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas was killed around 9:15 A.M. Saturday when his pickup truck, which was southbound on Camp Wood Road near Clements, Kansas, was struck by an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway freight train.

Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker said that the victim, Gayland Park, “must not have seen the train coming”, but offered little more information on the tragedy despite numerous news media requests.
