Illinois Man Seriously Injured in Train/Pedestrian Accident
(Galesburg, Illinois – June 20, 2011)
A young man (either 19 or 20) walking near Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks in the vicinity of the Knox College football field early Monday morning about 2:22 A.M. was hit and injured by a BNSF freight train.
According to Galesburg Fire Dept. the victim, Malcolm Coon, “underestimated the speed of the train and got clipped.” The accident occurred at Cedar and Second Streets on the Knox College campus. Suffering from both arm and leg injuries, Coon was first taken by ambulance to Galesburg Cottage Hospital, but then was transferred to a hospital in Peoria, IL.
