High School Football Star Killed By KCS Train After Homecoming
(Vidor, Texas – October 16, 2011)
A defensive back for Vidor, TX High School died under the wheels of a Kansas City Southern freight train about 7:00 A.M. Sunday morning, about 36 hours after he had led the Pirates to a 36-14 conquest of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School in Vidor’s Homecoming football game Friday night.
Matt Thomas, a senior starting defensive back, had one of three pass interceptions the Pirates garnered in the game. The tragedy occurred as Thomas was on KCS railroad tracks in the 2000 block of East Old Highway 90.
