Family, Friends Honor Teens Killed by Train on Railroad Trestle
(Elliston, Virginia – March 14, 2011) Barely a month after two Elliston teenagers, Grayson Hoops, 17, and Steven Robertson, 16, were killed by a Norfolk Southern train after it trapped them as they attempted to walk across a railroad bridge over the New River, family and friends from the boys’ high schools held a hike in the victims’ memory Sunday. The boys were regular participants with Young Life Ministries and Crockett Springs United Methodist Church. Pastors, parents and peers alike joined in a moment of silence after the group hiked to the waterfalls at Camp Alta Mons and dedicated an apple tree, planted in their honor and donated by Roanoke College.
