Elderly Driver, Trapped On CP Rail Tracks by Crossing Gates, Dies
(New Lisbon, Wisconsin – December6, 2011)
A 76-year-old female motorist from Wisconsin Dells, WI was killed by a Canadian Pacific freight train after she became entrapped on CPR tracks by crossing gates Tuesday evening about 6:30 P.M. in New Lisbon, WI at the Monroe Street (Highway 80) crossing.
The victim was northbound when she saw the gates drop on both sides of her vehicle, trapping her on the tracks as the westbound train bore down upon her.
The as-yet unidentified victim was first taken to Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston, WI, and was then airlifted to a Madison, WI hospital, but died enroute.
