(Carrollton, Texas – November 11, 2011)
In only a few months of operation, Denton County’s suburban train link to the DFW Metroplex has suffered first two property damage accidents, then an injury incident, and Friday morning about 8:00 A.M., a pedestrian fatality.
A 23-year-old man was walking next to Denton County Transportation Authority railroad tracks in a secluded part of the rail corridor in Carrollton, TX, when he was struck and killed by the commuter passenger train.
Carrollton Police Spokesman Jon Stovall identified the victim as Dustin Odell of Garland, TX, and said his body had been transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. The location of the tragedy was so remote that DCTA vice president of communications and planning Dee Leggett said “All you typically see in that section are deer and coyotes.”
DCTA train service was launched June 20, 2011.
