(Dallas, Texas – August 26, 2024)
A Dallas motorist was hospitalized last Monday after being injured in a vehicle collision with a DART Light Rail train. The collision was reported at around 4:15 p.m. and occurred near Ledbetter Station on S. Lancaster Road at Ledbetter Drive.
According to initial reports from Dallas Fire & Rescue, the driver involved in the collision was reported to be stuck inside their vehicle after being pinned in the accident. Emergency responders were fortunately able to free the pinned driver who was then transported to a nearby hospital.
The exact circumstances that led up to the collision are still unknown and the identity and condition of the driver has yet to be released by public officials.
The DART Light Rail is owned and operated by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit regional transit agency that serves the thirteen cities in the surrounding area. The agency operates over a total area of 700 square miles and offers a host of services including the DART Light Rail, the Trinity Railway Express Commuter Rail, a fleet of DART buses, and personal GoLink scooters.
The DART Light Rail has four lines; Red, Blue, Green, and Orange; with 65 stations and is the longest light rail system in the United States with over 93 miles of track. As of the first quarter of 2024, the light rail sees a ridership of about 64,500 passengers per weekday, and operates daily from around 5 am to midnight, with trains running every 7 – 15 minutes during peak hours.
Police are still investigating this collision.
