(Newberry, South Carolina – August 4, 2011)
A man walking along CSX Railroad tracks between SC34 Bypass and McCravy Street in Newsberry, SC was struck by a CSX freight train early Thursday morning about 6:00 A.M. The victim, whom railroad officials deemed a “trespasser” was found still alive, but died at the scene before EMT respondents could stabilize him.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster would not identify the victim, but indicated he knew who he was. In emphasizing that walking on railroad tracks is illegal, Sheriff Foster said he “hopes this incident serves as a message to the community."
