CSX Injures One, Crushes Classic Car at Unguarded, Dangerous Crossing
(Little Mountain, South Carolina – July 13, 2011)
The 83-year-old driver of a classic 1963 Volkswagen Beetle was injured and his prized vehicle damaged beyond repair when it was clobbered by a lone CSX locomotive at a private railroad CSX Railroad crossing. The accident occurred at the edge of Little Mountain, SC about 2:00 P.M. Wednesday afternoon.
Although the private crossing is located only a short distance a crossing which is equipped with lights and gates, the victim may have been unable to see or hear them signal the train’s approach. The driver, the Beetle’s sole occupant, was rushed to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
