(Spartanburg, South Carolina – December 4, 2011)
The derailment of six cars of a 110-car CSX Railroad coal train caused monumental traffic problems in downtown Spartanburg, SC Sunday morning about 9:00 A.M..
The accident, in which at least three cars overturned, dumping their loads of coal, blocked both West Main and West Henry Streets for over five hours Sunday, and contract crews bringing heavy equipment to clean up the derailment site stationed 18-wheelers along West Henry Street to off-load the Caterpillar tractors and pipe-layers used to re-rail railroad cars.
Fortunately, no hazardous materials or chemicals were spilled, nor were any injuries reported.
