Canadian National Derails Nine Tank Cars in Downtown Dubuque
(Dubuque, Iowa – September 7, 2011)
The derailment of nine tank cars loaded with thousands of gallons of ethanol from a Canadian National freight train passing through Dubuque, IA Wednesday morning caused traffic disruption and resident concern, as well as the potential for pollution of the nearby Mississippi River.
The location of the derailment, which officials claimed did not result in any spills of hazardous materials, was in the riverfront area of the city, and resulted in partial shutdown of Highways 151, 61 and 52 in a very busy section of downtown. No cause was offered for the derailment.
