(San Mateo, California – December 14, 2012)
A man believed to be in a passenger crossing area of Caltrain’s Hayward Park station in San Mateo, CA, was struck and killed Friday evening about 7:15 P.M. as he crossed the tracks in front of a San Francisco-bound train with 100 passengers on board, possibly not realizing that the train was not stopping at Hayward Park.
Gregory Dean Burgess, 56, of Oakland, CA died on impact with the train, which continued on a half mile beyond the depot before coming to a halt.
Caltrain spokesperson Christine Dunn said Caltrain authorities were still investigating the tragedy.
