A yet to be identified white male, riding his mountain bike beside Union Pacific Railroad tracks north of Canyon Road and south of the Clear Creek Bridge in Redding, CA, was hit and killed by a UPRR freight train Saturday morning about 9:00 A.M.

Witnesses said the victim was riding his bike along the east side of the tracks when he was overtaken by the northbound train. The UP locomotive engineer blew several blasts on the engine’s horn, but “it appeared the bicyclist couldn’t hear the train”. The victim was thrown into the air by the impact, and landed on the east side of the railroad tracks. He suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Shasta County Coroner.
