(Cape Girardeau, Missouri – October 5, 2011)
A Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train derailed 15 of its 105 cars in a rural area near Cape Girardeau, MO Wednesday afternoon around 3:00 P.M., disrupting rail traffic for 13 ½ hours.
There were no hazardous materials involved, but Delta Fire Dept. crews were called as a precaution. BNSF’s media relations representatives did not return calls from the news media, leaving attempts to provide information regarding the derailment to firefighters.
