(Hoboken, New Jersey—May 8, 2011)
Early estimates indicated as many as 34 passengers were aboard a PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) commuter train when it collided either with a trackside platform or an end-of-track bumper as it arrived at the Hoboken station Sunday morning at 9:00 A.M. Twenty-four passengers were taken for medical treatment, the most seriously injured to Hoboken University Medical Center. Others were transported to Jersey City Medical Center and Christ Hospital.
Although PATH officials did not respond to news media requests for information regarding the accident, Hoboken Police attributed it to a mechanical failure.
