Yet another fatality has occurred in Arkansas because of an unsafe railroad crossing. An 81 year old woman was killed when she was crossing the railroad tracks in her car on her way to pick up her son. The train crossing had neither lights nor gates, and one resident claims that this is not right – that “safety should be number one.” The same resident, who lives by the tracks in Greenville, Arkansas, correctly stated that “It’s always a matter of time.” Factually, accidents do happen more often at railroad crossings without lights or gates, and in almost all cases it truly is a matter of time before someone is killed by a train at these crossings. This crossing had only a crossbuck to warn motorists, and Greenville has witnessed firsthand the sad reality of just how little safety a crossbuck provides.
