(Kingsland, Arkansas – December 17, 2021)
A local motorist was killed after her van was struck by a Union Pacific freight train on December 17, 2021, in Kingsland, Arkansas. The collision occurred at about 8:15 pm at the Union Pacific crossing on Maple Street. The victim, 63-year-old Nahdyne Estes was the only occupant in the van at the time of the collision.
There Is heavy vegetation on the western side of the crossing which could have obstructed the view of an oncoming train. The crossing is equipped with lights and gates. However, it is unknown at this time whether the lights and gates were properly functioning.
