(Salt Lake City, Utah – September 11, 2011)
Two men on a motorcycle were seriously injured Sunday afternoon about 2:20 P.M. when their bike was hit by a Utah “TRAX” light rail passenger train at an intersection in downtown Salt Lake City, UT.
A witness said the pair were eastbound on South Temple when they assumed a left turn signal was stuck on red and turned north on 200 West, only to be struck by the train. “I don’t think they saw the train,” said the witness. Neither victim was wearing a helmet, and one was flung about 25 feet by the impact.
Two EMT’s who happened to be nearby responded until an ambulance arrived to transport the victims, who lost considerable blood, to the hospital.
