Another BNSF Rear-End Train Collision Injures Two In Montana
(Stockett, Montana – July 19, 2011)
A Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train, travelling from Laurel, MT to Shelby, MT, smashed into the rear of a standing maintenance of way work train southwest of Great Falls, MT between 8:00 and 8:30 P.M. Tuesday night. The collision seriously injured both the locomotive engineer and the conductor of the freight train.
At least 13 cars of the freight were derailed when it inexplicably left the main track and entered the siding where the work train was sitting.
“It’s going to take a few weeks until everything is back to normal,” said BNSF Spokesman Gus Melonas of the scene where over 35 BNSF workers were attempting to both investigate and clean up from the accident.
