(March 17, 2026 – Houston, Texas)
Several Amtrak passengers were injured at about 11 am Tuesday afternoon. The injuries were from train and 18-wheeler collision in Missouri City, just outside of Houston, Texas. The Amtrak train 2 was traveling from Los Angeles to New Orleans on Union Pacific Railroad tracks with 93 passengers and 11 crew members onboard when the collision occurred.
Missouri City Fire Chief Mario Partida said fire crews responded to reports of the accident on the southwest side of Houston around 11 a.m. local time.
The Union Pacific crossing where this collision occurred accommodates a daily average of thirty-four trains at speeds up to 79 mph. The Union Pacific railroad tracks closely parallel US-90 with short storage space for vehicles between the tracks and US-90 on Cravens Road. It appears that the tractor trailer was stopped waiting to turn onto US.90 with the back half of their trailer hanging over the tracks.
The collision is still under investigation by Missouri City officials.
