(June 23, 2026 – Corona, California)
A woman in southern California was struck and killed by a train as she attempted to cross a series of BNSF tracks. The accident occurred in Corona, CA, in the morning of Tuesday, June 23, at approximately 10:24 a.m., beneath the State Route 91 and Interstate 15 interchange.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released by authorities. She was pronounced dead upon the arrival of the Corona Fire and Police Department, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and paramedic personnel. Train operations were stopped in the aftermath and did not resume until almost four hours later, at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
The rail line where the collision occurred is owned by BNSF but is also operated on by Amtrak’s passenger trains. The section of tracks immediately to the west of the interchange consists of two main and two siding tracks, on which nearly 50 day and night thru trains operate at up to 60 miles per hour. Immediately beneath the intersection of the freeway and interstate, the rail line expands to eight tracks for a brief stretch before again narrowing to three. Despite the high rate of trains in the area, the nearest crossings that are accessible to pedestrians are the N. Joy St. Crossing to the west and the S. Promenade Ave. to the east, both of which require a significant detour for those traveling by foot.
BNSF is continuing to investigate the crash.
