(February 1, 2026 -- Clyde, Texas)
Two siblings were killed after their vehicle was struck by a Union Pacific train in the early afternoon of Sunday, February 1. The devastating collision took place west of Clyde High School, near County Road 243 and FM 18.
The two victims have been identified as 16-year-old Kyler and 19-year-old Brileigh Dailey of Clyde, TX. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that Kyler was driving at the time of the crash. Their pickup truck was hit by an oncoming Union Pacific freight train. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. According to Union Pacific’s statement, no train crew members were injured.
Per Union Pacific’s submitted records, the crossing where the collision occurred sees a daily average of 21 trains which travel at velocities of up to 70 miles per hour. The crossing is entirely devoid of active warning devices to provide notification to motorists that a train is approaching the crossing.
The town of Clyde has continued to mourn the deaths of its community members. Mayor Stephen Steele spoke out, saying, “This family may have lost two of their children, but we as a community lost two of our children…When a tragedy like this happens with one of us, it happens to all of us.”
He went on, “The fact that there are no arms really is a product of the railroad and the state. We don’t have much control over that. However, we are looking at what we can do to try to kind of push that envelope a little bit, to try to get those arms here.”
The investigation is ongoing as the town continues to grieve the losses.
