Woman Seriously Injured In Second Collision at Dangerous, Unguarded Crossing This Year
(Sandersville, Mississippi – October 16, 2011)
Around 2:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon a woman motorist leaving her church after morning services at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church became the second person this year to be seriously injured in a collision with a Norfolk Southern train at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of Mount Pleasant Church Road near downtown Sandersville, MS.
The as-yet unidentified female victim was taken to South Central Regional Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.
On January 20, 2011 a 54-year-old driver was seriously injured in a collision with another Norfolk Southern freight train at the same crossing. The crossing has no electronic protection (lights, bells or gates), and relies solely upon passive railroad crossbuck signs to warn motorists of approaching trains.
