(Somerset, Kentucky – July 1, 2011)
After languishing in a hospital in serious condition for nearly a month, a Somerset, KY woman has died of injuries she received in a June 3 collision with a Norfolk Southern freight train at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of Richardson Road and the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.
Charlotte Davis, 69, died Friday, July 1, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY after having been listed in critical condition from her multiple injuries, which included a number of broken bones, since the June 3 tragedy. The crossing, which is just outside of Somerset in Pulaski County, has no lights, gates or other electronic signals to warn motorists of the approach of trains. The southbound NS train clipped the front end of the victim’s car as she was on her way home at 7:00 A.M. that morning.
